Legacy Park NEws

Public Open House to Kick-Off Track and Field Design Process

The City of Decatur and City Schools of Decatur welcome all interested community members  to an open house on Tuesday, April 18, to meet the planning team and share ideas for the new track and field at Legacy Park.  The open house will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm in Hawkins Dining Hall at the rear of the Legacy Park Administration Building, 500 South Columbia Drive.

Breedlove Land Planning of Atlanta will lead the planning and design effort for the track and field. The new track and field was identified as a community priority in the 2018 Legacy Park master plan .

The planned improvements include a new competition track and field facility, synthetic turf athletic field, lighting, field house or comparable improvements to the existing gym, and stormwater management. Funding for the track and field will be provided jointly by the City of Decatur and the Decatur Board of Education. Barring unforeseen conditions, the project should be ready for construction by the end of 2023.

Breedlove Land Planning is a landscape planning and engineering firm that is recognized for its expertise in the design of parks and recreation facilities, scholastic site and athletic field improvements, and stormwater management systems.  Its clients include the Georgia State Parks system, the Decatur, Gwinnett County, Fulton County, and Atlanta Public Schools, Emory University, and the University System of Georgia.

Additional input and review opportunities are planned for Truckin’ Tuesday on May 16, from 5 pm to 8 pm, and on Tuesday, June 13, from 6 pm to 8 pm in Hawkins Dining Hall.
