Tips for Trail Walking with Your Dog

It’s fun to walk the trails with our dogs at Legacy Park. Individuals and families of all ages use them but they can be narrow. To make the experience safer and more fun for everyone, this session offers tips on how to work with your dog to walk on or off leash. Tips include:

• Learn how to read dog behavior and respond—puppy rambunctious, unsocialized and anxious, older dog who wants to be left alone, or the hound who just wants to use their nose
• Teach your children safe ways to greet a dog
• Understand trail etiquette of being proactive and moving off trail to let people or other dogs walk by
• Practice and learn cues—Sit/Watch/Stay, By My Side, Heel, Check-In—to help in navigating the trails
• Questions and answers
