Autumn is when Legacy Park winds down its season of growth and begins the slow march towards renewal in the spring. Along the way, the life of the park continues to thrive, with children playing, athletes on the track, and neighbors enjoying 77 acres of nature and community.

Your gift helps Legacy Decatur care for this special place and expand opportunities for conservation, recreation, affordable housing and connection. Please consider making an autumn donation today.

CompassionCon

Sunday, October 25, 2026  |  10am–2pm

Compassionate Atlanta's annual CompassionCon outdoor celebration—a dynamic fusion of conference and festival—brings people of all ages together to experience the vibrant ecosystem of a compassionate community.

CompassionCon invites neighbors, families, and organizations to connect through shared values of kindness, justice, equity, and inclusion—while learning how compassion can transform systems and communities.

More than just a festival, CompassionCon is a living model of what’s possible when compassion is at the heart of civic engagement and community well-being—a space to learn, connect, celebrate, and co-create a more just and caring world.

What would you like to learn, explore or experience at Legacy Park?

A team of UGA seniors is working with Legacy Decatur to imagine new educational and recreational resources for the park, and they want community input. Their short, 5–7 minute survey asks how you use Legacy Park and what kinds of opportunities might interest you, from wildlife, plants and birding to citizen science, field trips, homeschooling resources and more.

Your responses will help inform the team’s recommendations and ensure the ideas they develop reflect the people who know and use Legacy Park best.

The one and only Bread + Puppet Circus is back to confront our upside-down situation! With stilt dancers, paper maché beasts of all sizes, and a riotous brass band, The Upside Down World Circus is an urgent spectacle of protest and celebration.

Performing on the Front Lawn at Legacy Park on Friday, October 16th, the Decatur Arts Alliance is coordinating 30 community members to become part of the show! Available on a first-come basis, anyone (high school senior or older) can register to attend a puppetry workshop on Thursday evening, then perform alongside the troupe during Friday's performance.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

The Moore Chapel Gardeners are the volunteers who, under the leadership of the DeKalb Master Gardeners, keep Legacy Park's chapel grounds so beautiful.

They meet to work every 1st Tuesday of the month at 9:00am.

Those with a love of gardening are invited to join and help, either this month or in the months ahead. Let them know you're coming below.

REGISTER

Join with Legacy Decatur this month to spend some time outdoors creating and maintaining Legacy Park's greenspace.

Participants will help create beautiful spaces for Legacy Park guests while enhancing their own gardening knowledge and connecting with nature

Most tasks will be outdoors and include planting, mulching, and weeding. In the case of inclement weather, indoor activities will include tasks such as organizing supplies.

FIND OPPORTUNITIES

Decatur Community Habitat is transforming the front yard of Isom Cottage into an ecosystem filled with native plants, food crops, and, of course, beauty!

Recently, volunteers built the first section of a habitat fence. A habitat fence is an efficient way to corral brush on your property while also creating a cozy habitat for critters to occupy over winter.

Join them and build skills that you can take home to your own yard. Everyone is welcome!

FIND OPPORTUNITIES

Those who care deeply about Legacy Park’s forests and wetlands will find kindred spirits during Tree’s Atlanta’s monthly volunteer workdays.

Help restore the health of our protected greenspaces by removing invasive species and cultivating the native canopy that naturally creates a sustainable home for wildlife. It’s strenuous and rewarding work so be ready to break a sweat, get dirty and learn a lot while doing it!
